Originally we didn’t have a game today and potentially I was happy for a “rest” week. However, after last weeks draw both Dave and I felt another game pre Trimley was very much needed.
Today I asked the boys to do three things for me:
KEEP OUR SHAPE
KEEP THE BALL
KEEP OUR HEADS.
We discussed the mental muscle of Man City being two nil down to my beloved CPFC and never letting their heads drop for a second (they went on to win 2-4). To know that IF we play to our best, even if the score line doesn’t reflect it, we will win the game and we will score goals. As it turned out… being 2-1 down after ten mins gave the boys had the perfect opportunity to practice what I preached!!
The first half was a very close affair with Tay scoring 2 fast paced attacking goals meaning we went in at half time at 2-2. They boys played some nice football but we were far too nice and second to most balls. The half time gave us a chance to re group and it gave me the opportunity to ask the boys for more grit and more work rate.
We went into the second half a completely different team. We were physical, we were wide and we were back to our best. Then the moment of the game. Barrett flicked a ball to Gooderham on the edge of the box who took two touches to flick the ball up, turn and volley the ball over the keeper into the top corner to give us the lead for the first time today. The bench went crazy, the mangers elated and I knew that was it. A brace from Brinkley-Everard on his birthday and an amazing Goal line clearance from Barrett sealed a 5-2 victory.
We remain undefeated this season and we put last weeks disappointment to rest.
Special mention to Kinglsey at the back for being a real leader today and making good decision after good decision. MOTM performance and a game we dedicated to his mum. Get well soon Jen!!! X x
Up next Trimley…. And I CANT WAIT!!! ??????????
