On our day the RAIDERS can beat anyone. Today we proved it, beating a confident Stowmarket who sat top of the table.
During this game I kept thinking back to our first game of the season, drawing 1-1 with Stowupland who didn’t register a shot! The improvements we have made individually and collectively is huge.
The result is no way flatters us, as our 4th clean sheet in a row is testimony to our great back three and a keeper who’s getting better and better. To win 3 nil today and have your defender MOTM shows just how well we defended, and how well we played out from the back under pressure. To also have Ipswich Town there for the third game in a row shows the talent we have.
The game was pretty even for the first 10 mins and I thought Stow started both half's well, credit to their manager. However, once we figured out getting the ball wide to Oscar Barrett was our key to success the whole game changed. Oscars powerful runs down the wing and feeding the ball into Everard’s feet was getting success time after time.
The goal came after a powerful run from Everard saw him cut down from behind inside the box. PENALTY RAIDERS! The issue for me was who to take it, on this occasion I felt Finn deserved it and he smashed the ball high into the goal.
The second came shortly after with a corner from Deeks turned home by Barrett for his 4th goal in as many games.
The second half saw Hugo unable to play with a bruised foot and Kingsley struggling with a nasty cough. This wasn’t an issue for the Raiders today with the cool and calm Fenton filling into a more centre role in defence and Hibbard getting his first mins for the Raiders in a DM role. Both boys did superbly in their roles as did Deeks who won tackle after tackle.
The game was all over when Everard got his second and the Raiders third of the game with 10 mins to go. No one could stop him as he powered through and smashed the ball past an excellent keeper. The game as over. So much so that Heston Andrews got the last 10 mins upfront in an Andy Johnson role. Although AJ would have scored!
Right, I can’t finish this report without mentioning Oscar Kobylecki. Today Oscar was outstanding. He won 100% of his tackles, put his body in the way of every shot and had a MASSIVE smile on his face the whole time. His speed, determination, decision making and calmness on the ball has set a benchmark for Raiders players.
I’m very proud of todays performance and I hope you all are too.
