Away league match

Having watched Palace under Roy Hodgson for many years I know what negative football looks like. Todays opposition Moreton Hall Athletic set themselves up to try and stop us scoring today, without any thoughts of how they might score one themselves.

This is the first time we have come across a formation that didn’t include a centre forward, rather three defensive midfielders hoping to frustrate us, and stop us playing our game. The issue for them is that this Raiders team possesses immense quality on the ball and terrifying pace.

The game started as a cagey affair on another awful pitch. The centre of the pitch was crowded and the only joy we found was down the wings through Parker & Pospisil.

The deadlock was broken after 13 mins when Deeks spotted the early run from Parker and played a delightful ball over the top to the on rushing Parker, who calmly slotted home with the inside of his right foot. 1-0 RAIDERS.

The second goal came shortly after. Great work from Everard up top won a corner which resulted in Deeks getting his second assist of the game, this time finding Pospisil in the box who volleyed in from close range.

2-0 RAIDERS at half time and what felt like game over because they literally didn’t have a single player in our half of the pitch.

The second half saw some of our best football to date, with pass and move play, which either resulted in a good save from their keeper or shorts going narrowly wide. The only notable moments of the half saw a 30 yard strike from Hugo Andrews come crashing back from the underside of the bar and out to the on rushing Everard who’s header was deemed a freekick (stupid rule). Oliver Hibbard also provided the tackle of the game when his block tackle sent the winger flying into the air into a full somersault landing on his back. A tackle reminiscent of a young Mark Andrews playing for Thetford Panthers

A great match to watch, even if there were very few goals for the Raiders. MOTM was Fenton Arnold for being the Rolls Royce of defenders.
