Away league match

Following a disappointing two weeks of not having a game, it was fantastic to get back to Sunday football and a trip down the A14 against Ipswich Valley Rangers.

The IVR team were back to full capacity and flying high on the back of 4 straight wins. I did feel going into this game it would be one of the more physical battles we face this season, but having swept aside Thetford and Trimley I knew we would be up to the task.

The RAIDERS started strongly with high pressing and unbelievable work rate and IVR were rattled. The deadline was broken with a strong run down the wing from Oscar Barrett beating two men and putting in the perfect back post cross for the prolific Taylor Parker to tap in. The Raiders were off the mark, but knew we needed another.

The second goal came just before half-time. The ball dropped to Finlay Deeks on the edge of the box who hit a screamer into the top right corner. One even his dad would have been proud of. Special mentions to Kingsley Cook, Fenton Arnold, Finn Everard, Oscar Barrett and George Gooderham for stand out performances in the first half. Amazing that all bar one of these boys are a whole school year younger!

I told the boys at half time how delighted we were, but we needed another goal to kill the game off. George Gooderham (aka Lineker) scored the third shortly after half time with a calm finish having being put through on goal by Deeks.

IVR decided to throw caution to the wind and push forward in the hope of scoring. This allowed us even more space in behind their defence which we duly exploited. A long goal kick from Zach Horler allowed Finn Everard in behind their defence and the result was as expected… a perfect lob from outside the box over their onrushing keeper to make it 4-0 to the Raiders.

IVR needed help and it came 6 mins before the final whistle with the Ref awarding them a penalty. Neither Dave or myself know what it was given for, and even their managers were embarrassed with the decision. However being given a penalty is one thing… scoring past Zach Horler is another! The player ran up and struck it hard in the top left corner, only for Zach to dive to his right and palm it away!

IVR did manage a consultation goal to make it 1-4, but the Raiders instantly replied with a 5th and final goal. Oscar Barrett once again caused chaos down the right and his back post cross was volleyed into the roof of the net by Taylor Parker at the back post.

The Raiders move to second in the table (we have played less games) but now remain the only team unbeaten in the league.

Thanks to the traveling fans.
