Home cup match

Bury Town are an interesting team and MUCH improved from the 5-1 hammering we gave them in the league.

Today was a cup final for Bury and with new personal, new system and fighting mentality they coped with us much better.

As with most pre games we went through our mantra:

HARD WORK BEATS TALENT

WHEN TAKENT DOESNT WORK HARD.

I’m sure you’re all sick of this quote by now, but I knew if we didn’t give 100% today, then penalties were on the cards where anything can happen.

I thought today we were superb. We were tough physically and mentally.

Todays team talk was to NOT give them any encouragement. Do not give them time, do not give them space, do not let them bully us and do NOT LET THEM SCORE, because they will be aware we always score. Also to remain calm even if we do not score early on.

The boys worked hard in the first half with plenty of possession and just not quite clicking in front of goal. Hugo Andrews and Finley Deeks especially, with their new formation of three central midfielders were dominate, but maybe lacking a little on the final ball.

Second half we switched formation and went to a DM and CAM rather than side by side midfielders. Fenton Arnold moved into midfield to calm us down and get the ball wider, earlier, which is did SUPERBLY!

The deadlock was broken by Oscar Barrett following a wonderfully delivered corner from Taylor Parker. The ball reached Oscar at the back post who calmly cut inside onto his right foot and fired the ball low and hard under the Bury keeper. GAME ON!

The second and final goal of the game came from the penalty sport following a blatant push on Everard in the box. Taylor Parker stepped up and stuck the ball through the top right hand stanch, before spinning around and celebrating in front of the home fans! GAME OVER!

The RAIDERS remain unbeaten and move into the quarter finals.

I honestly LOVE this team, and it’s an honour to coach them. Special mentions to Arni and his work on the pitch, and anyone having to wash their kids white kit!!
