A superb comeback from the girls made the long trip to Somerset worthwhile. After the disappointment of losing in the League Cup last week there was an opportunity to put that right in this game.
The worst possible start happened and we found ourselves 0-2 down within ten minutes, despite creating some good early opportunities. It took a goal from Merryn on 12 minutes to get us back in the game and from then onwards more chances were created but without any further goals. On 28 minutes Ilminster scored their third goal and it seemed a long way back for the girls.
HT 1-3
It was agreed at half time that the next goal in this game was an important one. Luckily we got it and that gave us the confidence to get back into the game. An assist from Zoe B gave Merryn her send goal of the game within four minutes of the restart. The girls were battling hard and creating lots of chances. It looked like it wasn't going to be our day when Zoe B hit the bar and then the post with two good chances. In the 72nd minute Zoe B finally got her goal following an excellent through ball from Merryn, she calmly slotted the ball past the Ilminster keeper to make it 3-3. The winning goal arrived two minutes later with Merryn getting her hatrick and with an assist from Zoe B (her third assist) to give the girls a well deserved win.
FT 4-3
A fantastic performance from everyone involved, Zoe P and Abi were in control of the midfield, Liv, Lucie, Chloe and Ellie defended superbly in the second half and Emmy made a good impact on her debut. A good performance and great determination to win the game.
