Mercenaries FC Surrender Three-Goal Lead as Musika Stars Stun in Second-Half Comeback
Marymount Teachers College, Mutare β Spectators were treated to a thrilling encounter as Mercenaries FC and Musika Stars played out a dramatic 3-3 draw in a match filled with twists and turns.
Mercenaries FC started the game on the front foot, dominating possession and showing early intent. Their pressure paid off when Tatenda Sigauke opened the scoring with a well-placed header from an Innocent Sithole long throw. The hosts continued to press, and their in-form striker, Last Hwingwiri, proved once again why he is a force to be reckoned with. He netted twice in quick succession to give Mercenaries a commanding 3-0 lead going into halftime.
However, the second half told a completely different story. Musika Stars, determined to turn the tide, came out with renewed energy and put the Mercenaries' defense under relentless pressure. The visitors gradually clawed their way back into the game, scoring their first goal early in the second half before adding another soon after. Sensing danger, Mercenaries coach Denfy Jojo made tactical changes, bringing on Last Panganayi and Gideon Chiinze in the 75th minute, followed by Quinton Bapiro and Wellington Chidano. Despite these substitutions, Mercenaries struggled to regain their rhythm, and Musika Stars capitalized on their vulnerability, netting the equalizer late in the game to complete a remarkable comeback.
The final whistle blew with the score locked at 3-3, leaving Mercenaries FC ruing their missed opportunity to secure all three points. On the other hand, Musika Stars will take pride in their resilience and fighting spirit.
Coach Denfy Jojo will have plenty to reflect on as his side let a comfortable lead slip away. With more games ahead, Mercenaries FC will need to address their second-half frailties to keep their campaign on track.
Mercenaries will look to bounce back in their next fixture against SOCCO Stars. The drama at Marymount Teachers College was a reminder that in football, itβs never over until the final whistle.
