Home tournament match
Tournament hosts Meden Vale Colts started their bid to win one of 3 competitions available with a romping 7-0 win over Reindeer FC; a side they had beaten 3-0 and 2-0 in the past 15 months.
Changed personnel at the top end and an offensive line up overall saw MV take the upper hand from the off and forced a few early chances and a couple of corners. Sam 'Dingle' Turner showed frustration and possibly thought today would not be his day as he put an early one on one wide from 10 yards with just the keeper to beat and then thwarted moments later by the same man who produced two fine stops.
Tommy Quick brought a high ball down under pressure in the opposition box and had his ankles rapped which led to a penalty 20 minutes in which Liam Dennett casually rolled in for 1-0.
It wasn't long before Dingle managed to open his account for the day, sliding in when clear for 2-0, before debutant Tommy Edwards scored the goal of the day from outside the box, curling in a fine strike for 3-0.
Shortly before the break, Dingle once more had the beating of the high defence line and ran clear to slide in his 2nd of the game. 4-0 to the Vale at the interval.
Changes were made to bring on fresh legs but initially this didn't change the direction of the game as Dingle completed his hat trick just a few minutes into the second half, once more being put through and beating the keeper with a close but firm strike.
Further changes and the heat led to the pace of the game slowing and it became more scrappy and sloppy but Reindeer rarely had the beating of the Vale defence to offer any serious attacking threat. Just a few strikes from distance that Toon in goal had little to worry about.
Despite a lull of about 20 minutes, Brom then put the game to bed by doing what he does best with 2 close range tap ins within a few minutes of each other to give Meden Vale a thoroughly deserved 7-0 win in their opening game. Their will be tougher tests ahead though...
