Mateco FA travelled to Police Secondary School in Akure on 4 October 2025 for a friendly away fixture against PSSA FT, kicking off at 4:00pm. The 90-minute encounter ended in a convincing 4-1 victory for Mateco FA, who dominated proceedings throughout the match.
Mateco FA lined up in a traditional 4-4-2 formation, deploying Suberu Abdulbasit in goal to marshal the defence. The back four consisted of Ofeh Joshua at right back, Agbaje Olamide and Ayodele Victor as central defenders, and Mohammed Ayuba on the left flank. In midfield, Adeboboye Glory operated on the right wing, Ismaila Rabiu and Momoh-Jimoh Tijjani held the central midfield roles, while Akanni Tobi took up the left midfield position. Up front, the strike partnership featured Abdul Abdulgafar on the right and Damilare Maleek on the left. No substitutes were named for this fixture.
From the outset, Mateco FA showed intent, with Ismaila Rabiu opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Rabiu’s early goal set the tone, as the central midfielder demonstrated his ability to arrive late into the box and finish clinically. The visitors continued to press, and their pressure paid off again in the 25th minute when PSSA FT inadvertently turned the ball into their own net, doubling Mateco FA’s advantage.
The first half concluded with Mateco FA firmly in control at 2-0, having imposed their rhythm through a balanced midfield and solid defensive organisation. The 4-4-2 formation allowed the wide midfielders to support both defence and attack, while the central pairing maintained possession and dictated the tempo.
Just five minutes into the second half, Damilare Maleek extended the lead with a composed finish, capitalising on a well-worked move down the left flank. The left forward’s goal underlined Mateco FA’s attacking threat and ability to exploit space behind the opposition’s defence.
In the 63rd minute, Akanni Tobi added a fourth goal for Mateco FA, converting a precise assist from central midfielder Momoh-Jimoh Tijjani. Tijjani’s vision and passing range were key in unlocking PSSA FT’s defensive lines, allowing Tobi to finish confidently from the left midfield position.
PSSA FT managed to pull a goal back in the 72nd minute, but it was too little too late as Mateco FA maintained their composure and control for the remainder of the match. The visitors’ defensive unit, marshalled by Agbaje Olamide and Ayodele Victor, remained resolute to see out the game.
Overall, Mateco FA’s 4-1 victory was a testament to their tactical discipline and clinical finishing. The 4-4-2 system functioned effectively, with midfielders Rabiu and Tijjani orchestrating play and forwards Maleek and Tobi providing the cutting edge. The defence and goalkeeper Suberu Abdulbasit ensured a solid foundation, limiting PSSA FT’s opportunities.
This friendly win on the road will surely boost Mateco FA’s confidence as they continue preparations for upcoming fixtures.
