MASIA 4-0 ACCRINGTON
Absolutely immense from every single one of them today. Probably the closest we’ve looked to how we actually train.
We rolled up with 8 players.
Accrington, quite rightly, looked at our situation and decided this was very much a us problem ??
Fair enough.
So we adapted.
Different formation. Different jobs. A few simple things for everyone to remember, conveniently delivered in bullet-point form the night before like they were revising for an exam.
From kick-off, they were told we could win it.
Seven minutes later, Ruby put us 1-0 up and suddenly everyone started thinking… hang on.
Five minutes later, Brooklyn made it two.
2-0 at half-time. With eight players.
We didn’t go charging around trying to press everything that moved. They were told to let Accrington have the ball in their own defensive third.
So we did.
Stayed compact. Stayed patient. Waited for the moment to nick it.
Then the team mascot G arrived on the sidelines, proudly displaying her battle scars, and apparently that was the signal to stop being polite.
Second half was relentless.
Brooklyn found her feet and buried another two to complete her hat-trick.
Martha spent most of the half ruining their full-back’s weeks. Beat her over and over again and somehow managed to hit absolutely everything apart from the net.
Posts. Keeper. Fresh air. Passing car at one point.
Freya started feeling ill, so Tilly came out of goal and went to full-back.
You could visibly see Accrington’s eyes light up.
“Great, their keeper’s gone.”
Unfortunately for them, Freya wafted away their free kick like it was nothing.
Katy was brilliant screening in CDM, hoovering up loose balls and getting us playing again.
Libby was an absolute brick wall. Orla shut down everything out wide.
And the understanding between Libby and Orla was another level.
Libby stepped, Orla tucked in.
Orla stepped, Libby dropped.
Constantly covering each other and protecting the goal like they’d suddenly developed some sort of defensive telepathy.
Everyone did their job today.
No excuses about numbers. No panic. No running around like headless chickens or just launching it long.
Just adapted and got on with it.
Four goals.
Clean sheet.
Eight players.
Not a bad afternoon.
Player of the Match - Martha
That second-half performance was ridiculous.
