In what promised to be a challenging encounter, Malahide embarked on their journey to Park Celtic, anticipating a tough battle on the pitch. Memories of their previous encounter with Park Celtic lingered, where despite their efforts, we were unable to clinch victory. However, this time around, the narrative took a different turn, as we asserted our dominance early on.
The match kicked off with us seizing the initiative, as Toby found himself on the receiving end of a well-timed pass, effortlessly slipping the ball past the keeper in the 5th minute, giving us an early lead of 1-0. However, a momentary lapse in concentration within our own box saw Celtic capitalise, swiftly equalising the score shortly thereafter.
Undeterred by the setback, the lads regrouped and refocused, showcasing their resilience and determination. Gavin orchestrated the assist for Toby, who confidently netted his second goal of the game, swiftly followed by Toby returning the favour, setting up Gavin to extend our lead to 3-1 with a clinical finish.
As the first half progressed, we continued to assert our authority, with Gearoid's precision from a free-kick hitting the post and resulting in Toby completing his hat-trick in style from only a few yards out, elevating our advantage to a comfortable 4-1 lead at halftime.
The second half presented a different dynamic, as we struggled to maintain possession, succumbing to moments of panic under Celtic's pressure. This allowed Celtic to capitalise on an opportunity, narrowing the deficit to 4-2.
Despite Celtic's resurgence and fervent pursuit of a third goal, the boys demonstrated resilience in defense, thwarting their advances. Although we had opportunities to extend our lead through counter-attacks, we were unable to find the back of the net.
Ultimately, the lads weathered the storm and emerged victorious with a commendable 4-2 win, holding onto 2nd place in the table. As we look ahead to the upcoming fixture against Raheny, this hard-fought victory serves as a testament to the lads tenacity and collective spirit on the pitch.
