Magical Vegas waltzed into the next round of the Tom Keane Memorial Trophy with a destructive second half performance over Todo Ciudad.
The game plan for both sides was obvious after the first 5 minutes. Todo set up with a 4-1-4-1 formation aimed at frustrating their counterparts and they succeeded with a solid first half display. Vegas probably enjoyed 70% possession but couldn't not make it count in key areas. Only a clever slide pass from Kadeem Gutzmore found opposite winger Perry Price who finished first time low into the corner to put Vegas up on 25 minutes.
Todo were using any opportunity to play long balls into the box and it paid dividends with 5 minutes of the first half remaining. A penalty box scramble was scuffed home after what looked like a blatant push in the back to win a knockdown had not been punished by a soft referee.
Half time came and it had been an over complicated first half performance, Vegas simplified things, they pushed their two full backs into winger positions whenever they had possession and instructed the centre backs to come out with the ball to make an extra man in midfield whenever possible. Wingers were instructed to make a front two depending on what side the ball was on the pitch and Vegas quickly scored as a result.
Chad King stepped out and played a long ball forward which found Erol Resat who powered away from his defender and dinked a lovely finish beyond the on rushing goalie.
Moments later, captain Jacob Bond struck a long range effort that deflected into the path of Price at an acute angle, he struck it on the half volley into the far side of the goal to make it 3-1.
Resat played in Price 10 minutes later and the game was wrapped up.
Aaron Pedro and Price were replaced by Deondre Dewar and Abiola Baloqun which showed the strength of the Vegas bench when Abiola was released by Bond and he dinked his own effort in to make it 5.
He showed his class late in the game when in on goal, he slowed down, squared the ball to Resat 2 yards out who tapped in to score a beautiful team goal that showed this team are really starting to understand the importance of one-another. They can achieve more together.
They go again next week against White City, Hopefully they can put this opposition to bed like they should have last tie out in the opening game of the season.
