Shane McNamara scored a bullet header to win a hard fought game against SYFC this week in a must-win clash for Magical Vegas FC.
The game had started in the perfect way for Vegas when Patrick Moore Jones won the ball in midfield and released Abiola Baloqun into the Straight Yam penalty box. The onrushing keeper missed the ball and took out the powerful striker for penalty that Perry Price slotted home for his third penalty in the last 4 games.
Vegas's foot came off the gas when what should have happened was an upturn in intensity. They began to back off and the press was not as strong as it should have been which allowed SY the opportunity to play themselves back into the game and control possession easier than they should have been able to.
However, Vegas were still creating opportunities on the break with their fierce pace, especially Kadeem Gutzmore. In one instance he breezed past three players into the box but his shot was saved by the keeper from close range. Price moved into the central attacking position with Baloqun moving our wide to combat the winger who was cutting inside and causing problems for the Vegas boys.
However, the possession eventually counted when a deep diagonal pass from the Sy right back found a header at the back post which bounced agonisingly into the far corner to make it 1-1.
Frustratingly for Vegas, Alby Miller went off injured after a collision he was booked for left him with an unplayable knee injury before half-time. Kaleb King, for the second time in successive games, came on and performed admirably at left back but also left Vegas with no more substitutes for the remainder of the game.
The second half started much brighter for Vegas who had spoken about upping their pressure and causing their opposition problems of their own at the back in possession. This was paying dividends as Vegas conceded far less possession and controlled territory much better with man of the match Chad King and Hussein Hussein winning duels and the now deeper Tre Thompson and Sam Bader driving the side forward.
Vegas created chances, Gutzmore almost scored again from close range but his shot was saved while Price found shooting opportunities limited to free-kicks. The pressure told when Moore Jones whipped in a (De Bryun-esk) corner that Shane McNamara met at pace to bullet a header home with twenty minutes to play.
Vegas controlled the game and didn't give away any opportunities until the final minute where a free-kick from deep was just headed wide by the SYFC centre back.
vegas deserved their win and the must-win games keep coming. Admiral for the first time this season will test them and they will need to keep their calm, gritty mindset in order to come away with the three points they need to keep pressure on Dover Castle at the top of the table.
