vs Regents Rovers

Home league match

Magical Vegas FC ended 2016 in style with a classy win over a Regents Rovers side that were made to look distinctly average despite their relatively high league position.

The game started a little cagey with Regents having an early goal bound effort expertly saved by in form goalkeeper Matthew Summers. After a sleepy start Vegas stepped up the gears and began finding space in behind the Rovers defence and a combination that combined well in the previous game worked again as Nick Loblack found Mark Maher in space on the edge of the box, he laid the ball off to Paul 'Trigz' Reid who delicately curled into the far corner to put them 1-0 up.

As the team settled into their rhythm they began finding creating chances easier but when they presented themselves the profligacy in front of goal they experienced in the previous game meant they came in at half-time just 1-0 up. Being 1-0 up is always dangerous but the defensive combination of Loblack and (man of the match) Tarik Allag didn’t give a sniff to the dangerous Regents front men.

The second half started slower for the Vegas forwards and on the hour 3 out of the front 4 were replaced with fresh legs and a new direction as pacey wingers Ricardo Beckford and James Smith, back after almost a year out the side, give the team fresh impetus to put the game to bed. Vice captain Hussein Hussein came off the bench to play off the front man in a new role which he played well and it was he who released Beckford down the left channel who lifted a tidy finish over the goalie to put the game beyond doubt with 10 minutes to go. Vegas still had time to have a shot that looked to have crossed the line and a Reid curler hit the post, the 4th time they had hit the woodwork in the game, before Smith was brought down in the 90th minute for a penalty that Reid converted emphatically.

Vegas finished the year with back-to-back clean sheets and +8 on the goal difference to give the end of their year a much more positive feel than a couple weeks ago.

They can look forward to another positive year if they can continue with the good work they have started after only forming just over a year ago.
