NK Dons gave Magical Vegas a reality check after their 5 game winning streak last Thursday.

Playing with purpose, intensity and aggression they quickly set about winning back possession and moving the ball quickly against a static and disjointed vegas side.

However, with the game finely balanced, other than a couple of handy saves from new goalkeeper Daniel Bank, the referee intervened to change the course of the game. Hussein Hussein stood up in the box behind a Dons striker who fell over with minimal contact in his back. The referee pointed to the spot despite consulting his linesman who told him it was a very soft penalty and recommended it not be given. The penalty went in off the post to make it 1-0.

Vegas then shot themselves in the foot shortly after when a back pass was closed down and the goalkeeper lost out to the Dons striker who passed into an empty net.

Vegas's best player on the night, Kadeem Gutzmore, had a good effort palmed away before half-time but Vegas looked like they lacked belief that an unbeaten start of the season should give you.

After half-time and a few motivational words the vegas side did not respond the way they would have expected. They lost first and second balls regularly, misplaced passes and when they did have efforts on goal the opposition goalkeeper always had an answer, most notably with 2 high quality saves off Gutzmore and Perry Price.

Substitutions had little effect on the balance of play and when a Dons striker picked up the ball down the right channel and without any options Vegas seemed content with the situation. Unfortunately for Vegas the striker struck a perfect pinpoint strike into the far left corner over the head of the watching defence from an acute angle to kill the game.

When vegas play Myddleton on Tuesday night next week, they have to enter the game with a more energetic and aggressive attitude or they run the risk of losing all the positive momentum they gained over the first 6 games of the season. They must send a message to the league, that nights like this one will be few and far between in the season so they had better keep up their standards if they are going to be near them come the end of the season.
