Magical Vegas FC showed what they are capable of in the top-of-the-table clash against previously unbeaten Islington 49r's last night. Their 2-1 victory lifted them to 3rd in the league on the back of 5 straight wins.
The opening 15minutes saw Vegas sitting very deep and seeing very little possession. They rode their luck when an early chip rebounded off the bar and 49r's delivered dangerous crosses into the box on numerous occasions. However, centre back pairing Hussein Hussein and Tarik Allag resisted time and time again despite the ball regularly coming straight back at them as Vegas struggled to keep the ball higher up the pitch.

49r's, for all their possession, created very little real openings and they were punished on the half hour mark when a rare vegas break was put out for a throw. Shane McNamara launched it into the box, it was nodded on by Paul 'Trigz' Reid, Patrick Moore Jones got to the ball first and cut it in off the bar from 6 yards out. Vegas had a foothold in the game and knew they would have opportunities on the break.
49r's would come out all guns blazing in the second half but again, for all their possession, they didn't create any clear cut chances. Only when a deep midfield runner played a clever one-two with the right-winger did they get in behind, he cleverly cut the ball back to be tapped in on 60minutes to draw the teams level.
Tackles had been flying in, mainly from the 49r's and yellow cards being given were a frequent stoppage in play. The 'Vegas boys' kept their minds calm and when substitutes Luke Morgan and Harry Pedersen added impetus down Vegas' right hand side they gained an advantage over their counterparts. Space was available in behind and Moore Jones had a near post effort saved and in form striker Paul Reid also had an effort well saved. It was however, left-winger Ricardo Beckford who was to be the match-winner. He provided another moment of magic when he nicked the ball of his opponent, ran down the left wing beating him for pace, and cooly slotted home.
49r's had a man sent-off 10 minutes from the end and Vegas, in-thruth, should have put the game to bed but didn't finish off their chances. A few scrambled clearances and some commitment ensured Vegas finished with 3 points to make a big statement to the Premier Division. We are here to stay, and we are here to win.
