Dover Castle out-worked, out-defended and out-fought a tame Magical Vegas side in the semi-final of the Tom Keane trophy this week.
A cagey first half saw a stalemate, similar to that seen in their last meeting, which ended 0-0. But this time a free-kick given away near the touchline right before the half-time whistle gave Dover an opportunity to launch it into the box. It was floated into the far post from the right hand channel which was slice punched by goalie Daniel Bank, unfortunately it sliced back across goal for a Dover striker to nod in from 2 inches out.
The game showed little sign of waking up, Vegas' players looked devoid of motivation or desire. Their play was lethargic and without any real idea or intention to work their opponents. This was largely down to a poor balance in the team and a lack of discipline.
Dover scored their second of the game when somehow a throw out from Bank found the Dover right back 35 yards out from goal. He struck an unbelievable effort high over the backtracking keeper to land a body blow to Vegas' confidence.
Although Vegas rallied and got a goal back through the determined Sam Bader off a Callum Hosier free-kick it wasn't enough as only minutes later Dover broke forward. Their left winger turned inside and out until he reached the byline and crossed low for the Dover striker to tap in from 2 yards to put the game to bed with 10 minutes left.
Vegas are now left with the final league game of the season to put White City under pressure and win against Myddleton Arms - one of only 2 sides to beat Vegas in the league this year. It will be do or die for the Vegas' boys season. Let's GET IT
