Match Report - RUSH ATHLETIC - 4 Sep 2022

First game of the season threw up a local derby in fingal as we made the shirt trip to St Catherine's to face Rush Athletic. A great crowd came out for both teams and the support was great to see. Rush started brightly and had lots of possession early doors and looked the more likely to open the scoring going close a couple of times with Matthew Wade in fine form to keep in 0-0 on a couple of occasions. Loughshinny grew into the game and had a few efforts at goal with a Cian Ensor shot stinging the hands of the Rush goalkeeper who didn't parry the strike far enough away and Rory O'Connor arrived to smash the ball home passed the stranded keeper. It was nearly another when O'Connor got played through again but the woodwork came to Rush's rescue.HT 1-0. David Kenny set the tone early on in the 2nd half by crunching into a few tackles which seemed to lift his team mates. Again Rush had some chances to equalise but Loughshinny held firm and doubled the lead when great work from David Kenny released a great through ball and O'Connor latched onto it before slotting the ball passed the helpless keeper. Oisin McGirl came close to a third when he broke through and the post saved Rush again. Rush did eventually pull one back in the dying minutes but couldn't mount a siege as Loughshinny seen the game out well. Some good performances all round Callum Lynch, David Kenny played very well. First derby of the season seen Loughshinny run out 2-1 winners.
