Away league match

What started as a top of the table clash turned out to be a very bad day at the office from Palmerstown as they were well beaten by a better team and with results going against them they find themselves in 6th place after starting in 3rd place. Lougshinny started on the front foot and were in charge of the game early on as one Evan Spencer cross just a bit too high for Rory O'Connor to get on the end of. Only a few minutes later it was the same combination and a different outcome as the cross was met perfectly and headed into the top corner to give O'Connor his 1st of the game and his 30th this season. Palmerstown did have some moments a superbly struck free kick smashing against the cross bar and back out again. Loughshinny didn't really take advantage of the lead but the palmerstown goalkeeper made a stunning save to deny an O'Connor bicycle kick off the post and again was at hand to deny Ross Connells effort after great play by Lynch,Spencer and O'Connor. O'Connor then had one blocked on the line by a palmerstown defender getting a great block in. HT 1-0

2nd half started much the same as the first but a bit better in possession of the ball from Loughshinny they started moving it quicker and added some much needed tempo into the game. But it was palmerstown who equalised when a corner wasn't cleared and a resulting cross it fell to the Palmerstown player and he hit a superb overhead into the net past Jason Donohue in goal. Loughshinny then upped the tempo again and Conor O'Neill was introduced for Connell and was immediately in the action when fouled on the edge of the box. O'Connor stepped up from 23 yards to fire the ball into the top corner and restore the lead. A few minuted later Ryan Fagan played a long ball which the defender off Palmerstown sliced not the path of O'Connor who ran in one v one and dinked it past the keeper. Palmerstown should have given away a peno when the number 6 blatantly handled in the box. Ensor had 2 good chances to score but failed to hit the target on both occasions. Kingsley and Daniel Gorman defended brilliantly today and Cameron Solheims first start in a while was very good in his position at left back. Jason Donohue got a nasty kick in the first half under a bad late tackle by the Palmerstown forward but stayed on and played very well collecting a few tricky crosses. The swans will be licking their wounds tonight but they will know better surely not to poke the bear again.
