First round of the Leinster Junior Shield today against DCU in blustery conditions in Loughshinny Park seen Loughshinny United advance to the next round after a 6-0 thrashing of their opponents. A few changes made today due to players having to get minutes into them and injuries aswell. Callum Lynch came into the middle replacing Conor O'Neill and the latter replacing the injured Rory O'Connor upfront.

Loughshinny started well and had a few good moments in the game and broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when Ryan Fagan from the throw in found Mark Delves who was able to turn and run at the defender and beat him and fire a shot into the near post from a tight angle. It was 2-0 shortly after that when a great passage of play resulted in Callum Lynch entering the box and taking 2 of the DCU defenders out with a reverse pass to Evan Spencer who faked the shot put the last DCU defender on the ground and slotted home with his left. Conor O'Neill was the next provider putting Lynch through on goal and his effort creeper through the keepers legs and found the net. Cian Ensor missed a chance he should have scored or played into 2 free Loughshinny players but he put his effort wide. David Kenny left his mark on his man soon after with a super tackle. Conor O'Neill then got through himself and failed to score with a wasted opportunity just before half time. HT 3-0. The visitors found the Loughshinny Condiotions tough in the 2nd half with a onslaught from the home side with the wind on their backs made it 4 on 50 mins when Cian Ensor caused trouble down the left got into space and squared it for O'Neill to tap home. Delves should have gotten his second when he found himself in space but his tame effort was saved by the keeper. O'Neill got his second of the afternoon when David Kenny played him in and O'Neill smashed his effort into the far corner from a narrow angle. Kingsley Nwajei wrapped up the game with a towering header from a Spencer corner. 6-0 victory and into the hat for round 2.
