A match with a lot of fight

Not to be accused of only writing up the wins… a very late kick off today over at Borehamwood. By the time we started at 12:20 the sun was blazing and it felt very warm.

The first half saw Borehamwood with lots of possessions . The knights played with lots of aggression and brought the challenge to the Colts.

The Colts rose to the challenge and took on every battle with Arthur Cian and Ziyad defending hard and winning every challenge. Henry, Cian, Oscar and Alby had some decent shots at goal but in the end the Borehamwood goalkeeper saved them.

At 20 minutes the Knights managed to score ?a long range shot that crept in. ??1-0??

Play continued for another 8 minutes.

The ref didn’t help keep the game fair, making very late decisions once play had continued, failing to address fouls on blues, losing track of the time meaning the boys played far too long in the heat, blocking free kicks, failing to enforce request to get opposition to retreat and asking his own parents who kicked the ball out… the list goes on but anyway enough about the ref!

Half time score ??1-0??

The second half was more of the same Borehamwood were a strong and overly aggressive team at times. Lots of battles and the boys kept their heads up which isn’t easy with the amount of aggression coming at them. Well done to Oscar for showing lots of maturity and not rising to some pushing (when the ball was off) from one of the Borehamwood boys.

Jonas was kept busy in goal for the entire match and made some brilliant saves under pressure. There was some excellant and calm defending from Arthur and he got a few mentions from the opposition. Well done to all the boys for keeping their heads up despite the heat, the ref and the aggression. We made some good chances with Henry and Alby getting through the Knights. With only 5 minutes to go the Reds scored once again with a scrambled goal after a battle in the Colts box.

Overall despite the score line there was a lot of great things about this match. The Borehamwood boys were a strong team and it was good to see the Colts defence and goalie working so well (the scoreline would be far worse otherwise). It was also great to see the boys keep their heads up in spite of so much challenge and to continue to play to win for the entire match. There was a lot of skills displayed. Well done Colts.

After the game the boys all left with a ?? and bellies full of ?? ?? ?? as it was Henry’s birthday.

Lots learnt from the game that will see them grow next time.
