Home league match
London Colney Colts Under 9 Blues ??v ??Belsize Park under 9
Our blues have had a bumpy start to the year. The Christmas break didn’t do them any good and after winning their first match they have had a draw but then they were scheduled for a friendly with a team that have been plying two divisions above them, that resulted in a bruising loss that the boys weren’t really able to learn from and seemed to affect them even last week. We have all given the blues a motivational chat this week which has seen their concentration improve and a good training session on Friday.
This week we met Belsize Park at Beaumont for an early kick off. We last met this team as under 8s when we visited them. The match got off to a good start and the teams seemed evenly matched. We were awarded a penalty early on for a handball in the box, Henry took it for a great goal.
?? Henry
??1-0??
There were lots of chances for both sides in the first half. Including a penalty for the visitors which didn’t get in to goal, with credit to Jonas for great presence in goal.
The colts played well with a goal under their belt and it boosted their confidence. There were some chances on either side. It was great to see the colts pressing straight from the opposition goal kick, focusing on driving the ball up for their goal kicks and taking chances to shoot. A great team play gave us our next goal. Elliot followed and pressed the Belsize player to the line winning a throw in, Henry took the throw, with Elliot keeping the pressure on with Alby intercepting the visitors pass and having a run across goal with a strong boot from outside the box to the back of the net.
??Alby
??2-0??
The second half followed a similar pattern, the boys started strong and had several good chances including a penalty which didn’t convert. Unfortunately with 4 minutes to go the colts didn’t keep their concentration, they possibly thought the win was in the bag. However the visitors won a penalty which they scored from followed closely by a high ball into the box which they lifted into the top of the net.

Full time 2-2
In all a solid performance from the colts with some lessons in keeping focus to the end of the match. Hopefully this match and their focus in the last week has helped them refind their groove as a team.

They followed the match with an afternoon of team bonding over some bowling (if you can call it that).
