Lomond Thistle 5-1 Westwood FC

Lomond Thistle continued to prepare for the20/21 GCCL season today with a friendly against Westwood FC, which ended in a 5-1 win for the Panda Jags.

After a cagey opening, Thistle began to settle on the ball and were creating some good chances - with McGregor, Allan, Sichi and Park finding joy in behind.

The opening goal of the game came with approximately 22' mins played. Logan Park striking home from a David Allan through ball.

Thistle continued to look sharp and the second goal wasn't far behind. David Allan again assisting, after nicking the ball from the Westwood defender and finding Ian McGregor in some space on the edge of the box, who curled his shot beyond the keeper with 31' mins on the clock.

It was Logan Park again who found the third after a well timed cross from Stuart Sichi with 38' mins gone.

With half-time approaching, Thistle refused to take their foot off the gas and David Allan nicking the ball from his opponent for the second time and creating a bit of space to get the shot away and make it 4-0 going into the break.

The second half saw a change of goalkeeper, with Mick Quinn continuing his come-back from an ACL injury. Fraser McCaughey and Nick Burrows were also introduced.

The game slowed down in the second half as Thistle made a number of changes, which probably disrupted the flow of the game. Westwood to their credit came out and played much better in the second half, with Thistle struggling to find a way through.

Andrew Macfeat and Scott McColl were introduced an hour into the game to try and get us going again. With Steven McColl and Kyle Cunningham coming on 5 mins later.

With 70' mins gone, Westwood threatened from a corner. The ball going over the top of the defences heads and finding a free man at the back post, who volleyed first time straight into the top corner. 'Keeper Mick Quinn, left with absolutely no chance of keeping it out.

Thistle replied quickly a few minutes later, Fraser McCaughey switching the ball over to the left to find Nick Burrows - who dogged and dived his way through a couple bodies to find himself one-on-one with the 'keeper, and it true Nick Burrows fashion, casually slotted the ball past the on rushing 'keeper.

At 5-1 the game was threatening to fizzle out and a couple more changes saw Lee Anderson and Daniel Porter introduced.

The final 10 or so minutes saw Thistle trying to get in behind with no success and the game would finish 5-1.

Overall, a good workout out for the boys and some more minutes in the legs.
