Home league match

In a disappointing league encounter at Litherland Sports Park on 1st March 2025, Litherland Remyca Res faced a heavy defeat at the hands of Runcorn Sports, with the final scoreline reading 1-4. The match kicked off at 2:00pm, and despite a spirited effort from the home side, they were unable to match the clinical finishing of their opponents.

Litherland lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, designed to provide a solid defensive base while allowing for fluid attacking transitions. Brandon Goldson was stationed in goal, shielded by a back four comprising George Maddock on the right, Sam Kearney and Aaron Rutherford-Spence in central defence, and John Graham on the left. Konstantinos Misios played as the lone central midfielder, tasked with linking defence and attack. Ahead of him, the midfield quartet featured Anthony Griffith on the right, Callum Moffatt and Joseph Forrester centrally, and Cameron Taylor on the left, with Josh Rice leading the line as the striker. The substitutes available for tactical changes included Dylan Riley, Michael McDonald, Danny Cull, and Ethan Galt.

The match began with Runcorn Sports asserting their dominance early on, taking the lead in the 9th minute. A well-worked move saw them breach the Litherland defence, leaving Goldson with little chance to respond. As the first half progressed, Runcorn continued to apply pressure, and their efforts paid off again in the 40th minute when they doubled their advantage, leaving Litherland trailing 0-2 at the break.

After the interval, Litherland emerged with renewed determination, and just two minutes into the second half, Josh Rice found the net, giving the home side a glimmer of hope. His goal, however, was quickly overshadowed as Runcorn struck again in the 75th minute, restoring their two-goal cushion.

Things took a turn for the worse for Litherland when Sam Kearney received a red card for violent conduct in the 77th minute, reducing them to ten men. Runcorn capitalised on this numerical advantage, scoring their fourth goal just two minutes later, further extending their lead.

In an attempt to shake things up, Litherland made a series of substitutions, bringing on Dylan Riley for Josh Rice in the 70th minute, followed by Michael McDonald replacing Callum Moffatt in the 80th minute, and Danny Cull and Ethan Galt coming on for Anthony Griffith and Konstantinos Misios respectively in the 82nd minute. Despite these tactical changes, Litherland was unable to mount a comeback, and the match concluded with a disappointing 1-4 defeat.

Josh Rice's performance stood out amidst the gloom, as he not only scored Litherland's solitary goal but also showcased his determination throughout the match. However, it was Runcorn Sports who left the pitch with their heads held high, having demonstrated a clinical edge that Litherland will need to address in future fixtures.
