Both teams played fantastic football from the start. And both had the chance to strike a blow first in the early stages. Lifford had the better chances in the first half and deserved to be at least 1 up by halftime,clooneys keeper dropped the ball twice under pressure from 2 set pieces but Liffords forward men let them off the hook by not taking the gamble for 2 tap ins. Clooney piled the pressure on in the second half and got a deserved lead late on and could've wrapped it up with an even later penalty only for the super Karl Friel to save the penalty. This gave Lifford a massive lift and set Clooney on the back foot. Lifford peppered Clooney after their penalty miss and in the dying embers of the game got massively deserved equaliser. Captain Jake Devine from 30 yards out with a training ground routine free kick,the electric Josh Doherty rushed towards the ball only to run over it and let Jake power a free kick with the instep of his right foot and into the roof of the net with a technique that manipulates the ball and fools most keepers into believing the ball is flying over and out only to dip at the last second. Lifford were rightly delighted and relieved in equal measure as both teams had chances to win but neither team deserved to lose.
