At the training session last Friday I said that I felt that it was the best training session we have had and that there was distinct improvement in the way that we were moving the ball.
That improvement was definitely noticeable in the first half in this game. We started the game very well getting after Lawford and showing them why we deserve to be in this division.
Our passing was good and as a unit looked strong both defensively and offensively. Some very good performances to be noted, that of Jack Pennington, Jaden Shearer and a noticeable debut by Lucas Evans. However a special mention must go out to Jack Pennington who made two superb double saves in the first half to keep us at 2-0. A different game it would have been had he not made these saves. He also made another great save in the second half when Lawford were definitely on top to keep us at 4-1. Jaden looked Sharpe up front causing Lawford a lot of problems and capped of a very good performance with 2 goals and a second week with an assist.
I was particularly pleased with the midfield shape and the new position taken up by Oli Clarke, that of CDM. Oli’s passing in the first half was very impressive, I can only think that with a few more games under his belt in this new position he will excel.
Overall I would have to agree with Rick’s summary; that in the first half offensively we were too strong for Lawford, but only for Jack’s great saves that prevented Lawford from being in contention. The Second half we looked leggy and a bit disjointed which allowed Lawford to get back into the game.
So well done boys, putting things in perspective, this is only our second game together this season, both Lawford and Finbarrs have played at least 3-4 pre season games plus two league games so we are moving in the right direction. Lets keep working on our structure and continue doing the right things in training and we’ll continue to see a steady progression.
This week like the week before I award man of the match to Jack Pennington. However my decision is not conclusive, so go on the site and rate your fellow players.
