We hoped to continue our return to winning ways against St Nicholas, who hadn’t collected a win all season, but complacency is something we have been guilty of previously this season so we were hoping for a high intensity display from the outset.
We took an early lead, Tariq latching onto a good cross from Ollie to convert at close range. We spent the remainder of the half creating chances but converting nothing, squandering several very good opportunities. As a result of this St Nics always felt they stayed in the game and their effort and enthusiasm were maintained. We went into half time 1:0 up.
The second half was one of continuing frustration for Hibs. Ryan had a good penalty shout not given, Jayden hit the post and Ollie the crossbar directly from a corner. Meanwhile St Nics created a couple of chances which fortunately they failed to convert. 5 mins from time Tariq got his second after quick and direct movement of the ball by Tai – something that we had been lacking. Almost instantly at the re-start Ollie scored with an excellent strike into the bottom corner and we ran out 3:0 winners.
We made hard work of what should have been a more comfortable match, our inability to move the ball quickly when going forward being most noticeable. However this was our third win in a row after our New Year “dip” and bodes well for a good run to the end of the season.
