Hibs Return To Winning Ways

Despite this being a mid-week fixture and the pressures of a working week, we still turned out our full 12 man squad – thanks to all parents/supporters/players for their efforts. A tough game was expected considering Kenilworth had competed in the “A” league the previous season, coupled to our recent run of poor form….

At last we got off to the best possible start, a good cross from Dan being well met by Tariq with his head, to put us 1:0 up after just 4minutes. After struggling to play quality football over the last 3 matches we suddenly looked like the team we had done at the start of the season. Our passing was much more fluent and we looked a constant threat going forward. Kenilworth did equalise soon after we took the lead but it was clear we had the upper hand and 2 goals by Jayden (both assisted by Ollie) put us into a great position ½ an hour into the first half.

For this game a formation change had seen Beau and Jermaine swap their usual roles and this looked a much better set up for the team, Beau adding quality and composure in midfield and Jermaine looking solid in defence. Kenilworth started to raise their game towards the end of the first half and a stern test was expected in the 2nd half, but we held onto our 3:1 lead into ½ time.

The 2nd half required a full rear guard action from us as Kenilworth raised their intensity, having clearly been surprised by our 1st half performance. They got a goal back 16minutes into the 2nd half but we were a match for everything they tried to do to equalise, and had a couple of great opportunities to wrap the game up ourselves – their keeper making a great save from Jayden’s volley. Despite the referee playing four inexplicable minutes of extra time we held on to the win.

All players deserve credit for a spirited, quality performance, especially after the recent disappointments. Hopefully we have turned a corner and this performance is what we can expect every time we play.
