Lads Club Juniors U13 travelled to Fownhope Recreation Ground on 9 September 2026 for a 6:30pm kick-off in a league away fixture against Phoenix U13 Rovers. The 60-minute nine-a-side contest ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with both sides sharing the spoils after an entertaining encounter witnessed by 35 spectators.
Lads Club Juniors lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Louis Howells on the right, Archie Rigby centrally, and Charlie Clueit on the left. The midfield quartet featured Flyn Watkins on the right flank, Zayn Prosser and Riley Smith occupying the central midfield roles, and Rupert Bruton on the left wing. Chase Bracegirdle led the line as the lone striker. Lucas Price guarded the goal. The substitutes bench included Oscar Jones, Thomi Scoular, Finn Jones, and Charlie Arnold, ready to make an impact as the match unfolded.
The game began with an early offside call against Chase Bracegirdle in the second minute, his mistimed run halting a promising attack. Immediately after, goalkeeper Lucas Price was called into action, producing a sharp point-blank reaction save in the third minute to deny Phoenix’s early threat. Lads Club Juniors responded swiftly, with Chase Bracegirdle delivering a precise slide rule pass in the fifth minute, setting the tone for their attacking intent.
Rupert Bruton tested the opposition defence with an attempt wide of the target in the seventh minute but continued to influence play, providing a long cross in the 14th minute. The match took a dramatic turn in the 16th minute when Lads Club Juniors made a flurry of substitutions: Oscar Jones replaced Chase Bracegirdle, Thomi Scoular came on for Flyn Watkins, Finn Jones replaced Riley Smith, and Charlie Arnold took over from Charlie Clueit. These changes injected fresh energy into the side.
Lucas Price was again alert in the 17th minute, pulling off another point-blank reaction save to keep the scores level. Defensive solidity was reinforced by Thomi Scoular, who executed a crucial tackle in the 22nd minute. Rupert Bruton remained a constant threat, forcing a save in the 23rd minute after another attempt on goal.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Thomi Scoular unleashed a stunning long-range strike from outside the box with his right foot, sending the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net. Just a minute later, Oscar Jones played a slide rule pass that created a clear chance, which Rupert Bruton narrowly missed with a wide effort. However, Rupert Bruton quickly made amends by delivering a long pass in the 27th minute that found the feet of Thomi Scoular. Prosser then finished from close range inside the box with a right-footed strike, assisted by a precise cross from Thomi Scoular.
Phoenix U13 Rovers pulled one back in the 29th minute, capitalising on a lapse of concentration to score with a left-footed finish. The half concluded with a saved attempt from Charlie Arnold at the 30-minute mark, followed by another save from Rupert Bruton’s effort.
The second half saw continued pressure from Lads Club Juniors, with Thomi Scoular firing wide in the 38th minute but also making a vital tackle moments later. Archie Rigby and Louis Howells combined defensively in the 42nd minute to prevent a clear chance, with Archie Rigby intercepting and Louis Howells making a crucial tackle. Zayn Prosser’s shot was saved in the 45th minute, but the midfield continued to drive forward.
In the 47th minute, Thomi Scoular provided a clever cross, demonstrating his creative influence. Substitutions resumed with Charlie Clueit returning to replace Louis Howells in the 48th minute due to an injury, and Riley Smith coming back on for Finn Jones a minute later. Oscar Jones was caught offside for a mistimed run in the 50th minute, a correct decision by the officials.
Lucas Price maintained composure with a secure catch in the 51st minute, but Phoenix U13 Rovers struck again in the 52nd minute, on a counter attack from a Lads Club free kick, scoring from inside the box with a right-footed finish to level the match at 2-2.
Lads Club Juniors made a further substitution in the 56th minute, bringing Flyn Watkins back on for Oscar Jones. Rupert Bruton continued to seek opportunities, firing wide in the 59th minute. The closing stages saw crucial defensive interventions from Zayn Prosser, who made interceptions in the 61st and 64th minutes, the latter preventing a clear chance. Lucas Price was alert again in the 62nd minute, diving at the feet of an attacker to deny a goal. Charlie Clueit also contributed with key tackles and interceptions in the 63rd and 66th minutes, helping to preserve the draw.
The match ended 2-2, a fair reflection of a contest marked by attacking flair, defensive resilience, and tactical adjustments. Thomi Scoular’s long-range strike and creative play, alongside Zayn Prosser’s goal and defensive contributions, earned them joint player of the match honours. Lucas Price’s goalkeeping heroics and the defensive efforts of Rigby, Clueit, and Howells ensured Lads Club Juniors remained competitive throughout against a determined Phoenix U13 Rovers side.
