Home league match
On 11 January 2026, Lads Club Juniors U12 hosted Kington Town U12 at their home ground for a league encounter, kicking off promptly at 10:30am. Kington played with 8 players and the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate after 60 minutes of competitive football, witnessed by a modest crowd of 24 supporters. Both sides shared the spoils in a tightly contested affair that saw early goals and numerous tactical adjustments.
Lads Club Juniors lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back with Charlie Clueit on the right, Archie Rigby centrally, and Louis Howells on the left. The midfield quartet featured Thomi Scoular on the right flank, Flynn Gething and Zayn Prosser occupying the central midfield roles, and Joseph Lee operating on the left wing. Leading the line was striker Oscar Jones, positioned just ahead of the midfielders to spearhead attacks. This setup was designed to provide defensive solidity through the back three while allowing the midfielders to control possession and supply the lone striker. The substitutes named for the match were Charlie Arnold, Flyn Watkins, Finn Jones, and Chase Bracegirdle.
The game began with Lads Club Juniors showing intent, as Flynn Gething tested the opposition goalkeeper with an early attempt in the second minute, which was comfortably saved. Defensively, Archie Rigby was alert to intercept a threatening move in the ninth minute, demonstrating his importance in the heart of the defence. The breakthrough came swiftly for the home side in the tenth minute when Zayn Prosser delivered a precise pass through the defence, allowing Oscar Jones to round the 11ft keeper and finish confidently with his left foot and put Lads Club Juniors ahead.
However, the lead was short-lived as Kington Town were awarded a penalty just two minutes later. Their striker converted with a right-footed strike, levelling the score at 1-1 and setting the tone for a fiercely competitive match. Lads Club Juniors responded positively, with Flynn Gething providing a slide rule key pass in the 15th minute that carved open the opposition defence, he then recieved the ball back though his subsequent shot was again saved.
The 18th minute saw a flurry of substitutions as Charlie Arnold replaced Charlie Clueit at right back, Flyn Watkins came on for Flynn Gething in central midfield, and Finn Jones took over from Joseph Lee on the left side of midfield. These changes aimed to inject fresh energy into the side. Shortly after, Zayn Prosser made a crucial tackle in the 20th minute to regain possession, while Archie Rigby twice thwarted Kington Town’s advances with well-timed tackles, including one in the 22nd minute that prevented a clear chance.
Chase Bracegirdle was introduced for Thomi Scoular in the 24th minute, maintaining the midfield balance. Charlie Arnold continued to impress defensively with a solid tackle in the 28th minute. Oscar Jones had a chance to restore the lead in the 29th minute but his effort bounced wide. The half concluded with a final defensive intervention from Charlie Arnold at the 30-minute mark, just before the break.
The second half began with further tactical tweaks as Joseph Lee returned to the pitch in place of Oscar Jones pushing Thomi Scoular up into attack. Flyn Watkins attempted a high shot soon after, which failed to trouble the goalkeeper. An offside call against Thomi Scoular in the 33rd minute was a testament to the opposition’s disciplined defending. Zayn Prosser then delivered a long pass in the 38th minute that nearly created an opportunity, although Joseph Lee was controversially flagged offside moments later despite appearing onside.
Flynn Gething re-entered the fray at the 40th minute, replacing Finn Jones, and Oscar Jones was reinstated upfront for Thomi Scoular a minute later. Lucas Price, the goalkeeper, made a vital parry onto the corner of the crossbar in the 41st minute to keep the scores level. Joseph Lee’s attempt in the 43rd minute went wide, and Chase Bracegirdle replaced Flyn Watkins shortly after. Archie Rigby’s long pass in the 45th minute set up a promising move, but the home side’s momentum was slightly disrupted by a substitution at half time, with Charlie Clueit returning for Charlie Arnold.
Thomi Scoular was brought back on for Chase Bracegirdle due to injury at the 46th minute. Despite some missed chances, including a wide effort from Zayn Prosser in the 50th minute, Oscar Jones continued to influence the game with a slide rule key pass that created a clear chance. Injury forced another substitution at the 51st minute as Charlie Arnold replaced Louis Howells in defence.
Thomi Scoular was caught offside again in the 54th minute, while Charlie Clueit intercepted a dangerous ball moments later, highlighting his defensive alertness. Oscar Jones attempted a spinning shot that was saved in the 56th minute but quickly followed up with another incisive slide rule pass that nearly led to a goal as Joseph Lee’s attempt in the 57th minute was saved, underscoring the persistent threat posed by Lads Club Juniors.
Throughout the match, Charlie Clueit stood out with consistent defensive contributions and timely interceptions, earning him the player of the match accolade. Despite their efforts and tactical reshuffles, Lads Club Juniors were unable to find a winning goal, and the game concluded in a well-fought 1-1 draw against Kington Town U12. A huge effort from Kington's 8 players rewarded them with a well earned point today ??.
