Away league match
In a tightly contested league encounter at the Tlhabane Stadium on 9th March 2025, Labyrinth Football Club succumbed to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Sporting Tlhabane. The match, which kicked off at 3:00 PM, saw both teams battling fiercely, but it was the hosts who emerged victorious with a late goal that sealed their win.
Labyrinth FC set up in a traditional 4-4-2 formation, aiming to balance both defensive solidity and attacking threat. Rapula Malusi occupied the goalkeeping position, shielded by a back four comprising Letlhogonolo Motang and Kaelo Phillis as right and left defenders respectively, with Karabo Molekwa and Rebaone Molekwa forming the central defensive partnership. In midfield, Goitseone Letoaba and Mpilo Dube operated as right and left midfielders, while Johnny Liebenberg and Godfrey Manthe took up central roles. Up front, the attacking duo consisted of Mogorosi Katane and Thabang Pule, tasked with converting chances into goals.
As the match unfolded, Sporting Tlhabane struck first in the 42nd minute, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble to take the lead just before half-time. The Labyrinth defence was caught off guard, allowing the opponents to bundle the ball home from close range, leaving Malusi with little chance to intervene.
The first half concluded with Sporting Tlhabane leading 1-0, and Labyrinth FC regrouped during the interval, determined to turn the tide in the second half. Their efforts bore fruit shortly after the restart when Karabo Molekwa levelled the score in the 56th minute. The central defender confidently converted a penalty with his right foot, awarded after a foul in the box, sending the travelling fans into raptures.
However, the joy was short-lived for Labyrinth as Kaelo Phillis received a yellow card for unsporting behaviour just moments after the equaliser, putting further pressure on the team. As the match progressed, Labyrinth made tactical substitutions, bringing on Phakiso Lenyora for Godfrey Manthe in the 74th minute, followed by Amogelang Lesedi replacing Thabang Pule in the 80th minute, as they sought to regain control of the match.
Despite their efforts, it was Sporting Tlhabane who struck again in the 82nd minute, scoring from a set piece. A well-executed delivery found an unmarked player outside the box, who unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that left Malusi with no chance, restoring their lead at 2-1.
Labyrinth FC pressed for an equaliser in the dying moments of the match, but their attempts were thwarted by a resolute Sporting defence. The final whistle confirmed a disappointing result for Labyrinth, who will need to regroup and reflect on their performance as they prepare for their next fixture.
