Home league match

Today was always going to be a test of character having lost our first game of the campaign so heavily just seven days ago vs Botanic. All of the lads were extremely hurt by this result and really put the work in on the training pitch on Friday evening as we looked to get back to winning ways. Not only did they do just that they actually inflicted the same punishment on a Sefton side that were second best throughout. After a bright start with Jack making some serging runs down an advanced wide position the deadlock was finally broken in the 7th minute, Jack beat the defender and played a terrific ball back for Lewis who stabbed the ball home for his 15th of the season. Defensively we looked much more assurred with a back three of Johnny, Dan and Kian and Paddy sat just in front of them was getting lots of space and time on the ball and in the 14th minute he ht a superb switch pass to Zach on the right hand side who struck a low shot which deflected into the goal to double our lead. Four minutes later Zach was at it again hitting a set pass from Lewis which curled into the top corner. Ross was working hard up front and his movement was allowing the space for Lewis to get in behind and when Connor who had not long come on for Zach whipped in a fantastic cross he smashed the ball in for number 4 with a well uted half volley.

We took our foot off slightly at the start of the second half but you could see that we were looking dangerous everytime both Connor and Mitchell got on the ball as Sefton couldn't live with their pace and trickery, 10 minutes in to the second period we finally got goal number 5 when Mitchell went 1v1 with the keeper and lobbed the ball over him it was a terrific finish. Two minutes later Ross went on a Ricky Villa style run and despite being kicked twice he stayed on his feet got into the box and put the ball on a plate for his strike partner Lewis who rolled the ball in to complete his hat-trick. Mitchell grabbed a second after 47 minutes and it was fitting that Connor got in on the act with our 8th with just a minute remaining with a poachers finish after sefton failed to get the ball out to safety. The resulkt keeps us in 2nd place just 3 points behind the leaders but more importantly it banished the hurt of last weeks defeat out of our system.

Well done boys same again next week would be nice!!
