vs MK Elders

Home league match

For the first time this season it was an early kick off however our lads showed no signs of tiredness as they started the game with a high tempo to put MK Elders well and truly to bed racing into a 6-1 lead by half time. Ross won a penalty in the opening minutes and up stepped Paddy who kept his cool to open his account for the season. Elders were awarded a penalty of their own just minutes later when Johnny made a clumsy challenge in the box leaving referee Maloney no choice but to point to the spot. The resulting kick draw the game level but from then on it was one way traffic. Johnny made amends with a great switch pass which set Ross on his way down the right, he beat the full back and curled the ball home for his 6th goal of the season. We extended our lead when Mikey went on a great run down the left and struck a fierce shot which came back out to Paddy, the skipper shielded the ball and set back for birthday boy Gerard to hit the ball which cannoned off the bar and in via the keepers shoulder. Paddy very nearly scored an early contender for goal of the season with a dipping half volley from the halfway line missed by inches, it would have been some goal had it gone in. Mikey then scored two in just under 3 minutes to draw him level in the club's all time scoring chart with Mitchell on 46 goals. It's some achievement and surely the half century will be next in his sights before Christmas. Gift's well struck finish inside the box just before the break sent us in with a comfortable lead.

The scoreline allowed us to make 5 changes at the break and give a run out to other members of the squad and credit has to be given for maintaining our level of performance with countless pressure particularly to Ethan, Jude and Zach. It was the latter who for the third game in a row bagged himself a brace coming off the bench with two well taken finishes either side of Paddy's second spot kick which he won himself after a lung bursting run in on goal. Despite conceding a late goal it was another good performance to secure our 3rd league win of the season. Next up is unbeaten Predator which will be the toughest test so far but one that will determine if we can mix it with the big boys.
