L4 Make It 3 In A Row With Great Performance

A lot has happened since the opening day of the season when we were beaten by a Mersey Boys side who fully deserved their victory on the day. The squad togetherness has been bolstered thanks to our participation in The International tournament in Dublin earlier this month and we are very much a different animal at this point of the season. Not only did today's result avenge the huge dissapointment from 11 weeks ago it puts us just one point behind our opponents who sit in 4th place. New signing Anthony Cooke who has impressed in training was handed a debut in midfield and he gave us a different dimension both offensively and defensively. Alex McDonald linked up with Ross Keegan who smashed home a long range effort to open the scoring after just 5 minutes. It was a great strike by Ross who is thriving back in a central position up top. Dan Galvin had to be withdrawn after 15 mins with a slight hamstring strain which was a blow. Two Alex McDonald goals either side of a poor goal when we failed to clear a cross from a free kick sent us into the break with a 3-1 lead.

The second half performance despite conceding two soft goals was one of the best of the season. We played some great stuff and looked threatening with every attack. Gift won a penalty which Paddy converted on 40 minutes then the skipper took his season tally to four with a deflected effort five minutes later. Ross demonstrated his unselfishness by crossing for Gift who tapped home in the last minute to cap off a great victory. Last season's top goal scorer is certainly not letting go of his golden boot as that puts him into double figures for the season. More importantly it meant that was three wins on the spin for the first time this season. Here's hoping the good run can continue as we continue to make a push for the top 4.
