L4 In Mersey Paradise

Following further frustration with postponements due to poor weather over the past few weeks we returned to action with a resounding victory over 2nd placed Mersey Boys. It was a battling performance from the off and we put in one of the best collective performances since the transition to 11 a-side. Despite being unwell Harry had a great game in goal and looked calm and assured throughout, although the threat from Mersey Boys was minimal but that was down to the back four being solid throughout. Kalu yet again showed great leadership whilst Connor is improving week by week, the makeshift right back has adapted to the position and well and truly made it his own.

The breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Gift went on a powerful run down the left firing the ball across the face of goal, Paddy reacted quickly and diverted the ball back into the danger area where Jude Carter finished with a clever flick past the keeper. The lead was doubled 12 minutes later when Kalu's long ball fell into the path of Gift who kept his cool to hit a left foot finish for his 20th goal of the season. Zach hit double figures himself in the 2nd half with a fantastic strike and three more were added in a 9 minute period where the football we played was clinical. Gift layed one on a plate for Jake before he then scored a 2nd from a tight angle, before Jude Carroll raced forward to strike a superb finish into the far corner. It was a vital 3 points and a victory we must now build up with plenty more football to play between now and May.
