Away league match

Leighbridge Tigers inflicted a 2-1 defeat over us as we failed to sign the league campaign off with a victory. Although the runners up spot was already securred it was a blow as we were looking to keep our good form going ahead of the cup final vs the league champions Botanic in 2 weeks time. Mitchell and Daniel were both big losses for us especially in the attacking third as we failed to get in behind their defence and lacked the direct pacey threat that our number 11 offers. Leighbridge Tigers started the game on the front front and it was only a matter of time before they were going to get their rewards for this. We defended a corner well but failed to win the second ball and the resulting cross was headed home by their number 9 who done well to stay onside. Both Zach and Jamie were trying desperately to put balls into the box but we didnt get enough bodies in the box to convert any of them, our best effort of the first half fell to Jamie who struck a first time shot on the half volley but he couldnt get enough power in his shot.

We opened the second half with much more purpose and should really have been level with good chances created for both Ross and Zach who's effort struck the inside of the post on 27 minutes. We then got done on a quick counter attack on the half hour mark and the 2nd goal really knocked the stuffing out of us. Ross got one back with 8 minutues remaining after some good work from Paddy who put him through and he finished low and hard past the keeper. Ross then looked like he was about to rescue a point when he got on the end of a long range pass to be left 1v1 with the keeper but he failed to generate any precision with his finish and it was well saved.

Despite the dissapointment we have to take the positives from this not only today but from the whole season in general. Finishing 2nd was a good achievement and showed real progress from the previous season. We still have a cup final to play for and hopefully that will be the day we can show the biggest reaction to todays heart ache.
