Home league match

Our unbeaten run was extended to now four games however following a shaky and disjointed start we had to come from two goals down to earn victory. Falcon Juniors had got off to a flyer and within 10 minutes there were flashbacks to that eventful semi-final encounter last season. Our response was very good though and once we settled down and begin to play the true L4 came out, Ross latched onto Jay's long field clearance to get one v one with the keeper to half the deficit and Jay himself very nearly levelled the scoreline up only to have his goal ruled out for offside. Anthony Cooke making only his second appearance was pulling the strings in the engine room and his terrific looping effort was spilled by the keeper, from the sideline it looked every inch over the line however the referee disagreed and the score remained 2-1. It didn't take us long to get ourselves level and considering we've had problems defending corners this season it was from our own that we caused real problems. Ross's delivery was excellent an own goal from their number 14 drew us level and it was Cooke who smashed in a bullet of a header in the 29th minute to send us into half time with a 3-2 lead.

The second half was very much one way traffic and we were in total control, but that remaining 22 minutes were to be played 10v10 as Ross clashed with one of their players and both saw red for their reaction. Alex McDonald was playing out of his skin and was a real handful down the right hand side, he was also on the receiving end of two very bad challenges which on another day may have also produced a red card from the refs top pocket. The first challenge wasn't helped by the poor pitch which was beginning to cut up due to the amount of rain we've had in the week, the second one however was off the ground, very high and dangerous. Yellow was shown but he was extremely lucky as was Alex who was able to play on. Thankfully so as he was able to have a hand in crossing for Paddy to divert a header after 50 minutes before playing his part in the goal of the day which was one of the best team goals we have ever scored. Alex played a terrific ball into Kalu who exchanged passes with Paddy he slid Jude Carroll in and his low cross found its way to Gift who smashed home for his 11th of the season. That was soon to become 12 when he capped off a great comeback with just minutes left and it came from yet another corner taken this time by Dan Galvin who gets just as much joy out of setting goals up as he does converting. It's been a great turnaround in putting a good run together but there's tougher fixtures on the horizon against Warner and BRNESC and ultimately they will be the markers to show just how far we have come since the end of October.
