Alex Hat-Trick Seals The Win

Following three weeks of there being no fixture it was great to get back on the pitch as we went in search of our first win since 6th January. Two tough games vs BRNESC and a heavy defeat to Warner had hit us hard and there was no error for any further slip ups in a game we needed to win to virtually claim a 4th placed finish. We started very brightly and Eldonians struggled to get out of there half but our wastefulness in front of goal and poor decision making was to blame for not racing into an early lead. It wasn't until the 17th minute when Anthony Cook brought the ball down elegantly and played a superb switch pass for Alex McDonald who's first touch got him past the left back before he hit a well drilled strike into the far corner. Several big chances fell to Ross and Gift but they failed to convert which meant at half time we only had a slender lead.

Four subs were made at the break and the start to the second half was slow and lethargic. Sam looked to bring the ball out and was intercepted which caused confusion and lack of communication from Harry and Jay which lead to the equaliser. Anthony Cooke who was putting in his best performance in an L4 shirt turned provider again for Alex who finished with a cool dink on 52 minutes and six minutes later he completed his hat-trick with a stunning finish with the outside of his foot having been played in by a great through ball from Ross. Despite it not being a great performance it was all about securing the 3 points which we hope can now build momentum as we look to have a good cup run and end the season on a high.
