Away league match
After four weeks of postponements due to waterlogged pitches it was great to finally have a game to look forward too. It was a difficult test for us however as the current league leaders were our opponents. Warner dominated the first half as we found it difficult to create anything going forward however we defended really well as a unit given that we were without the suspended Jay following his dismissal vs Mersey Boys in January. Their opener also came from a mistake of our own which was disappointing but despite their dominating start we managed to keep it to just 1-0 at half time. We probably should have also been level when Gift went on a great run down the left and picked Ross out on the edge of the area, he layed the ball off for Paddy who struck a ferocious shot that went narrowly wide.
A change of shape and personal was made at half time as we felt we still had a big opportunity to get something out of the game if we continued to believe and play on the counter attack. Ross moved into a central position and done very well breaking the play up and battling hard to regain possession. Gift spurned a glorious chance to draw us level before they scored a superb second goal with a curling shot that flew into the top corner. Credit to our lads following that though as they never gave up and Gift was becoming a real handful for their defenders firstly on 55 minutes he won a penalty which Paddy dispatched before he level things up with a fine solo effort 11 minutes later. With 2 minutes remaining it looked like we'd done enough to rescue a point which on reflection would have been a great result given that we didn't play particularly well in the first half. Unfortunately when the ball went out for what appeared to be our throw in it was given the other way and the hammer blow was struck when they scored from it. It was a bitter pill to swallow and hugely disappointing given that the lads gave it everything in the second half. We must use that as a springboard to bounce back with still plenty of games left between now and the end of the season.
