Away league match
From the very first whistle you could see the lads where well up for this. The frustration and disappointments of the previous weeks had to be cleared quickly from our minds, you can’t fault the attitude and commitment on the training pitch but today we put it to good effect claiming a victory over Ormskirk West End who had always been a difficult side for us in the past. Having played them in our last three pre-season’s this time it was the first we’ve faced each other with 3 points up for grabs.
Having made a fantastic start it was West End who took the lead after 16 minutes when a crossed ball looked to be dealt with by Sam only for his header to rebound off their strikers head. The response was good and Reuben was putting some brilliant balls into their box from right back, with the equaliser coming just two minutes later when his cross fell to Gift who’s miskicked effort fell to Zico who dispatched. Harry spilled a free kick on 26 minutes which their player tapped in the rebound but our response was yet again a positive one. Reuben who’s showed his versatility clipped another ball into Zico who bagged his 2nd of the game.
The second half needed a slight tweak in formation which saw us change to a 4-3-3 and it helped us tighten up in midfield and transition quicker. We should have gone in front when Paddy’s header was kept out but moments later it was the head of Reuben that gave us the lead powering in from Alex’s corner. Ben replaced Paddy as we looked to get a bit more control in midfield and he very nearly made an instant impact hitting a terrific shot that was kept out by the keepers foot. Despite their equaliser in the 61st minute we still looked a real handful going forward and two late goals from Anthony both from Alex corners got us over the line. Yet again Anthony proved to be a real threat from set pieces and Alex’s delivery was on the money.
It was a vital and well deserved victory and a performance we must now use as a springboard as we approach the Christmas period.
