Away league match

It’s all come down to this, the final game of the season. Our future is in our hands, we determine our fait. And boy oh boy did the Kiwi FC lads represent this when we stepped out on to the dry #2 field to play the Gorillas 17.

??Despite the upbeat mood, Kiwi FC hit a little speed bump when we found out that Foxy had forgotten the kit bag. This led to a very ad hoc warm up consisting of watching the earlier game, two touch keep ups and a running warm up with Finn Milne stepping in for the cones.

??At 2pm it was on, and the sun was out for second week running. However this time, a few of us couldn’t rely on Wade’s sunscreen.

??Kick off, and we came out of the gates firing with some very nice short balls to feet, Tiki-taka was the name of the game. We defended their long balls down the wing very well, with Robbie Goodwin and Frischy covering our wing backs without trouble. Dom and Robbie were superb in the midfield, making options for the defence and playing beautiful balls through to our pace trap of Ollie and Ewan. ??

Mid way into the second half, George Milne stepped up for a promising corner from the right. Thank god the ball wasn’t put into the mixer as people were going down left right and centre. Instead, the ball travelled to the back post where Robin “Van Persie” Bradley was waiting to leather the ball into the top bracket of the oppositions goal. WHAT A SCREAMER!??

Coming out for the second half, Kiwi FC was quietly confident until our CB, Robbie Goodwin, went down in a heap. Confusion set in, is he having a cardiac arrest? Has he been hit in the nuts? As I walked across to him, I saw a ghostly face which said “I think I need to vomit”. This saw the departure of Goodwin and the arrival of Mason who played the role of CB without a worry in the world. ??

Another set piece, mid way through the second half. George Milne steps up yet again, this time from the left. George changed it up this time, with a ball into the mixer, just skimming the near post defenders head and falling into open space at the back post where Captain Fantastic Dom Milne stood. With an almighty dive, Dom “Maradona” Milne managed to get a head/hand to the ball which fell into the back of the net. 2-0 Kiwi FC. ??

After some extended pressure from the Gorillas, they managed to fire one back through a decent strike into the top bins. Foxy was unphased and continued to keep his composure which he held throughout the game.

??Final whistle goes and Kiwi FC get their first win in I forgot how long, 2-1. Well done to Robin “Van Persie” Bradley for playing out of his skin and getting MOTM.
