Away cup match

Kirkintilloch Rob Roy travelled to Clyde Valley High School on 19 September 2025 for their cup away match against Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers, kicking off at 7:30pm. The visitors suffered a comprehensive 6-0 defeat in a match lasting 70 minutes plus added time.

Rob Roy lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking intent. Iain McColl started in goal, protected by a back four consisting of Oscar Halliwell at right back, Nathan Queen and Flynn Taylor as central defenders, and Lucas Hogg on the left. The midfield trio featured Zach Eynon on the right, Henry McClune centrally, and Lucas McKay on the left, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting the front three. Up front, Ollie Rodden operated on the right wing, Aiden Mackie led the line as striker, and Ace Trainer took up the left forward role. The substitutes named were Ryan Potts and Caleb Stephen.

The match began with Rob Roy showing early intent, Ollie Rodden forcing a save in the sixth minute, signalling some attacking threat. However, the visitors’ hopes were quickly dashed as Wishaw Wycombe took the lead in the tenth minute with a close-range tap-in, capitalising on defensive lapses. Just four minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage with a left-footed finish inside the box, putting Rob Roy under immediate pressure.

Despite efforts to regroup, the first half ended with Rob Roy trailing by two goals after 35 minutes. The break was swiftly followed by a double substitution at the 36th minute mark, with goalkeeper Iain McColl replaced by Ryan Potts and Flynn Taylor making way for Caleb Stephen in defence. The changes failed to stem the tide as Wishaw Wycombe struck again immediately after the interval, extending their lead to three.

Rob Roy made another tactical switch shortly after the restart, bringing Flynn Taylor back on in place of Henry McClune in midfield at 47 minutes. Yet, the home side continued their dominance, scoring their fourth goal moments later. The visitors struggled to contain the relentless attacking pressure, conceding a fifth goal at the 53rd minute.

Further changes saw Henry McClune return to the pitch for Zach Eynon in the 56th minute, as Rob Roy sought to find some foothold in the game. Unfortunately, Wishaw Wycombe added a sixth goal two minutes later, sealing a heavy defeat for the visitors.

Throughout the match, Rob Roy’s defensive lines were repeatedly breached, and their attacking efforts stifled by a well-organised and clinical Wishaw Wycombe side. The visitors will need to reflect on this performance as they look to regroup for upcoming fixtures.
