The Colts recorded their first home win of the season with a comfortable victory over Pittenweem at Myre Park, after a 2nd minute Simon Sanaghan goal set the home side on the road to three points.

Simmie fired home from a cross from Callum Grindlay was headed down by Scott Powrie in the 2nd minute and there looked to be only one winner from that moment on.

Powrie was the recipient to add the Colts’ second goal in the 13th minute after the ‘Weem keeper’s mis-kicked clearance fell to Kieran Wilson about 25 yards from goal. Powrie broke on the right hand side and Willo slid the ball into the Colts’ number 2’s path and he made no mistake firing into the far corner for 2-0.

As this point, there were discussions on the sidelines over previous games and a particular game (in Fossoway’s days) when we raced into an early 3-0 lead, and then going 4-1 up early in the second half before going on to lose 5-4 to a last minute Pittenweem goal.

Grindlay brought a good save out of visiting keeper, MacKenzie, with a shot on the turn from the edge of the area, but the keeper was equal to it and dived to his left to push away. Wilson also had a good chance when the Colts broke forward and Gavin Smith’s shot was blocked and fell to Wilson who shot just over

The home side were forced into a change after Rory Marshall was injured in the 54th minute in a tackle. Super Sub Ryan Campbell, who has a good record of 2 appearances from the bench and 2 absolute peaches of goals. Today, Campbell’s goal was the pick of the bunch when he received the ball wide of the left hand side of the penalty area, but a quick side step inside and he unleashed a superb effort high into the far top right hand corner, giving the keeper no chance.

The game was looking fairly comfortable at this stage but the Colts were unable to extend their advantage with Wilson and Sanaghan going close from a goalmouth scramble. Sub Jamie Forrester also had two good chances shortly after his appearance; one bringing a low save out of the keeper and another from an acute angle that was just too tight to find the far corner and with no forward in the vicinity for the final touch.

Another sub, Campbell Shiels, went close in the closing minutes when he volleyed just over after good play by Grindlay and Forrester in the 86th minute, while the final used sub, Scott Sneddon, also had a spectacular effort tipped away in injury time.

It was a very pleasing result and performance from the side, and one that will hopefully do the power of good. A clean sheet was very satisfying too.

Committee Man of the Match went to Davie Byrne who had a solid performance in the midfield, breaking up any attacks and was a commanding figure in midfield.

Well done, lads!!!
