Away friendly match

Colts gave another encouraging workout in the sun, but were beaten in the annual pre-season fixture against Perth side Letham.

Whilst results aren't important at this stage, particularly after the extended break, it was good for the lads to get some more match action under their belts. There was plenty to be pleased about, and also plenty to work on.

The hosts came closest first in the 8th minute when a strike rattled the crossbar with the rebound finding a Letham player in an offside position, whilst at the other end Jamie Forrester fired a shot into the side netting.

Colts were dealt an early blow in the 27th minute losing central defender Jamie McGuire (Trialist) to injury to be replaced by skipper Lewis Caulfield who was also struggling with injury.

In the 31st minute Damian Gonsales came close to giving Colts the lead when he rose to head a free kick from the right. But the Letham keeper Sorley was at full stretch to tip onto the post before blocking Damo's second attempt and then a third attempt was blocked by a defender and the danger was cleared for a corner.

The home side had a couple more chances but were foiled by Mark Robertson before they were awarded a penalty just before half time when Mitchell Baldwin committed a foul just inside the box. Daniel Kelly made no mistake from the spot kick with the hosts going in at the break 1-0 up.

Letham doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Richard Wheeler lobbed the advancing Robertson. Both sides had a couple of efforts, with Jamie Tierney have a shot blocked with a last-ditched tackle and Liam Murray floating the follow up just over.

GONSALES pulled a goal back in the 81st minute when he crashed home a low shot past Sorley and the Colts number 9 came close to providing the equaliser when he beat the keeper to the ball wide on the right hand side of the area, but sub Dylan Murray was unable to get enough on it to divert his effort across the line.

The home side put the game to bed in the 89th minute on the break with Nathan Kennedy tapping home after a break.

Despite missing a number of players, it was an encouraging performance from the Colts side, particularly in the first half. Sadly the team faded a little in the second period, but there was a number of positive displays.
