The Colts paid the price for not being a little more clinical in front of goal in the opening 45 minutes to put the game to bed, despite finding themselves 2-0 up early in the second half.
Kinross were dealt an early blow when Andrew Reade limped off in the 11th minute, but his replacement Simon Sanaghan got himself involved almost immediately seeing a penalty appeal turned down after Kieran Wilson’s shot was blocked.
The first half was largely all Kinross but they just couldn’t make the break through with a host of chances either being saved by the home keeper, deflected wide of goal or just failing to find the target.
Muchty nearly caught the Colts napping at the start of the second half with a headed effort from close range going just over, whilst Sanaghan also headed over moments later at the other end.
The opening goal wasn’t long coming when, in the 48th minute, Sanaghan latched onto a suicidal backpass to round the keeper and slot home.
Callum Grindlay extended the Colts lead in the 57th minute when he tapped home at the far post after Sanaghan flicked the ball across the face of goal from 6 yards out.
The home side pulled a goal back in unorthodox fashion in the 62nd minute when a long range free kick was misjudged by the Colts keeper and found its way into the bottom corner of the net. The unlikely comeback was completed in the 76th minute when McLaren found himself free at the far post and he fired home past Robertson from close range.
The Colts couldn’t find the winner and the match ended. On the face of it, a very disappointing result after a bright and dominating first half. But a much more encouraging performance than in recent weeks and plenty of positives to build upon in future matches.
