Waterbeach Colts 3 King Bill 2.
Our final preseason friendly unfortunately ended in defeat; however, whereas last week versus Pymoor I felt we somewhat made life easy for the opposition, I believe that we fully deserved something out of yesterday's game. Against Pymoor we capitulated to 4-1 down before reducing the deficit to 4-2 making the final score appear somewhat more respectable, but yesterday there was only ever at most one goal between the two sides, with their penalty spot winner coming within the final 5 minutes. I'd mention that their penalty was rather soft, but if we're honest, ours was perhaps softer still...??
Waterbeach Colts are a decent side who were comfortably amongst the best three teams in our division last season, and as we did when we beat them 3-2 at the end of last season, we again proved yesterday that we are just as good as them when we perform at our maximum & stick to our game plan.
MoM is again Dan North. Another game, another two goals; that's now 7 goals in 5 games for preseason. The first was an audacious lob which left their keeper desperately watching both the ball & his dignity curl cruely over his head, the 2nd was a dogged, determined run into their box which culminated in something Tom Daley would have been proud of. I don't advocate diving, but if you work as hard as Dan does & can win us a penalty because the opposition are stupid enough to slide tackle in the box, then by all means feel free to take a tumble. An additional honourable mention goes to Joel, who not only ran all game like a man 10 years his junior & provided Northy Goals with support up top, but for also bringing his dad along, so we actually had a fan. When added to Martin's family & a crocked Webbo braving the elements to lend his support, we actually had about five supporters - these truly are heady days for K.B.F.C.
So that's preseason 18/19 done: 5 games, 3 wins, 2 defeats, 10 for, 9 against. Annoyingly, 7 of those 9 against came in the final two games, so there's work to be done on that front, but all in all it's been a thoroughly positive & encouraging 5 weeks. Our level of performance really does bode well for the forthcoming season, and I'd like to thank all of you who have been involved.
Up the Kings! Up the Bill! ??
