Home cup match
In the final group game of the Vere Deane Cup- Section A , Kill welcomed Malahide to Straffan Road in what was ultimately a pointless game (Kill were already through to 1/4 finals).
Kill started at a furious pace. The back line of Fagan, Brady Mullen, Richardson and O'Connor (N) were patient in possession and were happy to receive the ball off stand in Keeper Kinsella. Cusack and Liam o connor were dominating the midfield battle and bringing both Carrolls, Power and Maguire into the game. Kill took the lead after a short corner was well worked between Stephen Carroll and Maguire who whipped a ball into the box to Leon Carroll. Leon laid to ball off to Brady-Mullen who poked home with fury. A deserved lead for Kill. It wasn't long before Malahide equaliser as their lively midfielder fired home. Malahide went ahead after a free kick was whipped in before deflecting off Brady Mullen and eventually being bundled over the line. 2-1 down and Malahide were well on top. The HT whistle came at a good time for Kill. The second half didn't start much better but Kill equalised after Richardson headed a Ste Carroll corner Into the net. The game continued to Ebb and flow with both teams passing up chances. Leon Carroll and Power were linking up well but opportunities were spurned. Conroy was introduced for Carroll resulting in Maguire going more central. This really brought Maguire back in to the game as he menaced the Malahide defence. Against the grain of play Malahide went ahead again. A long ball resulted in their striker receiving the ball on the edge of the box before he finished smartly passed the outstretched Kinsella. Kill not content with letting their 9 game unbeaten run end dug deep. Cusack went close as did Power. After a nasty challenge on Fagan, Sean O Connor was introduced. He proved a bright spark whipping in some tasty balls. Kill equalised 10 minutes from the end after a delightful corner was floated in by Conroy and eventually found its way to that man Richardson again. Unconfirmed reports were that he swung his little Iano at it but it found its way over the line somehow.
The ref brought the game to a close. Kill now will face Earl Celtic in the 1/4 finals of the Vere Dean Cup on Saturday the 6th May
