Esker Celtic 0 - Kill Celtic 3

It was a case of Dejavu for Kill Celtic as they travelled to St Catherine’s Park for the season opener akin to last year. Thankfully for the red n Black the result this season was much different to the 6-1 drubbing.

A well groomed pitch saw both sides attacking well early on with neither really threatening. The Kill back 3 of Brady-Mullen, Mc Intyre and Gilmartin dealt with any and every Esker attack with relative ease. Despite dominating possession Kill never really threatened to open the deadlock and perhaps it was no surprise to see both sides going into Half time even.

Kill started the second half brightly with wing backs Lynch and O’ Connor seeing more of the ball and the midfield trio of Callaghan, Maguire and Devaney asserting their dominance. Credit to Esker however defended astutely. It was from an Esker attack where the deadlock was broken. Lynch played a ball over the top to Carroll who laid off an inch perfect pass to the onrushing Conroy who smashed home. This goal forced Esker to push on and go for an equaliser. Moments later Kill had doubled their lead. It was the same combo as the first but this time Conroy was the creator to Carroll who dispatched expertly. Esker never gave up and continued to attack. The game was over 15 mins from time as Kill we’re awarded a free kick. The subsequent free was cleared before being hoisted back into the box by Maguire. Confusion spread in the Esker defence and Callaghan pounced with a late run before dancing between challenges and eventually placed home. 3 up and happy to see out their lead Kill brought on Doyle, Counihan, Lee and Crone who all worked tirelessly to see out the game.

A scoreline which is harsh on Esker as they battled all match but an excellent start to the season from the red n black ????

MOTM: Carroll/Conroy were tireless in their running and any other day would be MOTM but it goes to Eoin Mc Intyre who marked his first competitive start with a colossal performance.
