Despite the break in time between matches, Kill put their first back to back win of the season.
On a sunny afternoon at Straffan road, Kill started brightly. The back 5 of (s) Carroll, Devaney, O connor (S), Brady-Mullen and Lynch were marshalled by Higgins in goal and comfortable in possession. Kill opened the scoring after some hard work by Conroy, Kehoe and Carroll (L) resulted in a free kick 25 yards out from Kill. Maguire whipped in a delicious ball which the salmon Brady-Mullen glanced into the bottom corner. 1-0 up and good value for their lead , Kill controlled the game well and saw the game until half time.
The second half started well but Cherryfield grew into the game. They were awarded a penalty around the 60th minute mark. Stand in keeper Higgins stepped up and saved. For the next few minutes it seemed as though Kill couldn’t clear from their goal as Cherryfield threatened to equalise. Credit to the defence though as they stood strong.
Kill got their second goal after an exquisite flick from Carroll (L) saw Maguire break through on goal. Maguire strode through the cherryfield defence and finished expertly. Griffith, keogh and Counihan were brought on to see out the game and all three had chances. Perhaps Counihan was the closest as he unleashed a fierce shot which was tipped over the bar.
As the FT whistle blew , Kill were delighted as it moves them further from relegation
MOTM: very hard to split between Maguire, who scored and assisted and Higgins who stepped in and saved a pen ????
