A rematch against an older side who we played a couple of weeks ago
We started far better than the last game and looked dangerous from the start.
We pressed the game far higher up the pitch meaning winning the ball back in far more dangerous positions and looking dangerous as we went forward.
Some good football from the back and through the midfield. When we passed the ball we looked very good at times. Still too rushed at times when more composure would have made it more difficult for Cookley.
A few positional changes that took a few minutes to get used to but as the half moved on we looked more composed and structured
Ruby covered the back line well to snub out any dangers when they got round the back and demi quick off her line when called upon.
A couple of breakdown in communication when the girls didn't call when they attacked the ball but Demi saved well when needed.
The work rate on the whole first half was brilliant and much improved from the last two games. Girls winning tackles, meeting the ball and winning really good headers too.
We pressured Cookley and won a corner. Lotte crossed well the ball falling to Lily May who reacted brilliantly to lift over the keeper for 1-0.
At half time we had a few individual chats with the girls and explained what we wanted to see second half.
All credit to them they did everything we asked and second half started as well as the first.
Again the pressure was high and we pushed Cookley back really well.
Ali holding the ball up well and linking up play with the wide midfielders and other forward.
Cookley looked dangerous at times on the break and probably deserved their equaliser.
The won and corner and whipped it into the near post that took a couple of deflections and snuck over the line.
We applied more pressure after the goal and looked good again breaking out of defense. The work rate of the midfielders was exceptional and pressured Cookley into mistakes and giving us back possession.
After good work down the right we won a corner that Jess M wipped in really well. The ball bounced out to Ali who struck a brilliant half volley into the top corner. A great corner and a lovely finish.
Cookley had more pressure. A couple of good saves and last ditch tackles from Ruby and Anais and Ella clearing one of the line after Cookley hit the post.
As the darkness came in it made things more difficult but lions held out for a well deserved win.
A really strong performance and good result.
